Diamond Back 9 - Diamondback's DB FS Nine, the company's first attempt at a fully polished semi-auto, is a polymer-framed 9mm with a 4.75" chrome barrel and an unloaded weight of 21.5 oz.—half the weight of the company's unloaded DB380 , so the FS Nine represents a step toward growth for Diamondback as well as a leap into the full field of autoloader firearms.
The FS Nine has a Melonite-treated stainless steel slide with thick front and rear sights and a set of white three-dot fixed sights. The rear sight is in the slide, while the front sight is made in the steel slide. A drawing marked from the back of the slide, and a narrow opening on the upper side of the chamber allows a visual inspection. There is no traditional external manual safety, but the FS Nine has both a trigger safety and a fire block safety. The handle is very large and has a unique contour, wide at the bottom and narrow at the top, so that the hand fits tightly for a high and stable grip of a weapon, and the entire surface of the hand is treated with diamondback features and functionality. The first impression of the FS Nine is that it is big. It's not heavy, heavy or bulky, but it's a great polymer semi-auto. The grip is remarkably comfortable, and shooters with large hands will appreciate the additional space. The folding magazine and finger extension on the magazine provided a secure platform to hold the weapon while firing the magazine. Fixed sights are large and easy to find, but they are better suited for close-up target work than rifle shooting. The machined front sight is relatively narrow, and this creates a visible gap between the outside of the front sight and the inside of the rear sight when aiming. The trigger was fine, a little over 5 pounds, 8 oz. broke, even though it was a significant lift and it wasn't particularly light. However, the trigger has a short reset, and it was easy from one side to fire a shot, release some pressure to reset the trigger, and then fire again.

For this test, we used Federal's HST 124-gr. jacketed bullet points, SIG Sauer Elite 124-gr. JHP, and Hornady's Critical Duty FlexLock 135-gr. ammunition, and tested the FS Nine by firing five consecutive, five-shot groups at 25 yds. of a steady rest. Accuracy was respectable, and group sizes ranged from 1.70" to 3.88" with an average of about 3". SIG Sauer Elite ammunition was the most accurate load tested, averaging 2.62", while Federal loads were almost as good with Groups averaged 2.81". Hornady's critical work products averaged 3.12". The FS Nine went through the entire 75-round test with no feeding or ejection issues, and after the bench test we stopped and moved through a run of fire. We liked the overall balance of the FS Nine, especially with a full magazine, and if it is a little big for concealed carry, it is just right for target shooting and home defense, thanks to its long draw and enough weight to reduce recoil . For Diamondback Firearms, the FS Nine is a logical step into the growing and lucrative semi-automatic segment. It has a long list of features that allow it to compete with other semi-automatics of similar size, and yet it has a suggested retail price of $483, which is much less than many current class leaders. We wish the sights were a little better and more organized, and the trigger is functional but could be cleaned. However, for the price range, the FS Nine is competitive and will likely expand Diamondback's footprint.

The DB9 GEN 4 is a 9mm subcompact pistol with a polymer frame. It is less than 0.9″ wide and holds 6 rounds in one magazine.
