Best Glock Generation - Glock released a line of Gen 4 pistols in early 2010, which addressed the durability of the trick to the engines and made some mild external changes. About seven years later, the next generation of the Glock line is presented. The Gen 5 differences are just as subtle on the surface, but there are some interesting changes that aren't immediately apparent.
I've been using my Gen 5 Glock 19 since late August and have put about 4000 rounds through it since then. I ran in precise precision and dynamic defensive exercises hidden, and without a light placed on the barrier. I also spent time apart, familiarizing myself with internal changes and replacement parts issues (when the glocks were hobby kits).

Basically, the Gen 5 Glock 19 is just a 19 ball, but there are some interesting and odd changes that may warrant investigation. There are also some caveats that old buyers should be aware of. I hope to cover more of them here, but keep in mind that these insights are for less than 2 months of practice, several times a week. More time can tell more stories.
Best Glock Upgrades For Defense, Plinking And Competition: G
Much of this review will deal with Gen 5 differences from previous versions and Gen-5 user issues (carrying, shooting, accessories, etc.). For a basic Glock 19 review, I encourage you to review my Glock 19 Gen 4, here ("Review: Glock 19 Gen 4 - After 80,000 Rounds").
Also note that the images shown in this article do not depict brand new guns. But these shots are of someone who uses them hard a few days each week. They tend to get a bit beaten up.
The first and best reason to consider this pistol is because it is a glock 19; probably the best multi-purpose handgun ever made. Large enough to be a duty pistol, it offers accurate performance and substantial magazine capacity, while being small and light enough for everyday concealed carry.
Additionally, the excellent record of reliability that Glock pistols offer cannot be overlooked. In my personal experience I have put over 100,000 rounds through Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glock pistols and the only techs I have ever experienced, non-Glock replacement parts have failed and the Cerakote job has failed. With stock parts, the Glock pistol is in nearly perfect operation, even under stressful conditions.
Glock 17 Gen. 4 Review: Best Handgun For Beginner
Specifically for Gen 5, you may want to consider the new Glock 19 for a few compelling reasons. First, the shift lever is now double-posted. If, therefore, the hands are left, you will pass the great solution to the right, and have the pistol delivered to you complete. For those who like glock pistols but don't have a rifled finger grip, the Gen 5 plates have a front plate grip. No adjustment needed.
Gen 5 is very little that is new to the shooting experience, with 2 notable exceptions. The 19 round has always been a smooth shooting, easy to handle pistol and has always had an accuracy that will exceed 99.9% of shooters ability. What's new in this experience is the new Gen 5 barrel and flat front s hand grip.
After a lot of shooting with Gen 3 and 4 Glocks, I find the lack of a finger groove noticeable. I used to have to scratch myself to fill my strong hand and now it feels different. I don't find the difference to be bad, but because the finger grip fits my hand perfectly and I miss it on this pistol. I know many people have never loved it, so many will be happy with this change.

The new barrel bore achieves twice the accuracy at longer ranges (4" groups at 50 yards, Glock claims). I haven't had enough to find 4" groups at 50 yards, but I found my groups at 25 yards to be noticeably smaller with the Gen 5 compared to the Gen 4. . I can't say for sure, but I think it's due to the barrel being more accurate.
The Gen 5 trigger is perhaps a little better felt than the Gen 4, but that's subjective and hard for me to say. The Gen 5 trigger assembly is completely different from the Gen 4, configured like a glock 43. It has a "New York" trigger spring that uses a polymer spring support and compression spring (rather than an expansion spring that reaches the rod to the trigger. Cross shape). . I tried the 3.5lb link and felt no difference in the weight pressure. So I tried a 2lb bolt and a 4.5lb press waiting for my guns. New.
The most 9mm ammo I run through the pistol is a 115 gr ball, but I ran around from a variety of Premium 147gr Hydra-Shok JHP, Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P GDHP, Federal Premium 124gr HST JHP, Hornady Critical Defense 115 gr, and Hornady Critical Duty 135gr.. ... all with perfect respect.
I have had no experience with 4000 rounds in my Gen 5 Glock 19. The only notable thing I can report is that within the first thousand rounds I felt a slight hesitation at times as the first action was developed from the magazine. Instead of the standard "chicken" sound/feel of the slide going into the fight, there was the occasional "ka-chunk" which seemed like a slight hesitation with the round chamber. This deviation disappeared after about 1000 rounds and was never affected by the execution of the gun. Both were chambered and lit.
Glock 19 Gen 5 Review: 3500+ Round Report
As with any other Glock pistol, the transition to the Gen 5 G19 trigger arms is quite angular and typically uncomfortable for a strong middle finger user while shooting. Therefore, I recommend that every Glock pistol should have a Dremmel tool to join the sides and bottom of the trigger guard with the hand so that it can create a rounded and reduced profile. Other than this problem, the Glock 19 is quite comfortable. There are some who would disagree and find that the G19 or any Glock pistol would be just fine without this small change in performance. With this modification, I find the Gen 5 Glock 19 very comfortable. Without it, useless. I personally will never own a Glock that hasn't been modified like this. It will definitely be a good Gen 6 upgrade.
The Glock 19 is not fast in any way and is easy to manage. The magazine release position is good and I only have to adjust my grip slightly to get my medium hands into the trigger position (as I do on all handguns). Even with the Glock's small slide lever lock, my grip often jams the lever and I find that pistols sometimes fail to unlock in the last round of the magazine. This is in no way the fault of the guns. It's all for me.
Although compact, the Glomus 19 is larger than any in its class. But the holster is good and well, it is easy to hide in the belt, inside the belt or outside, in various places. I carry a Glock 19 every day with the light in the appendix position and never have a pressure problem.
Note, however, that concealability is significantly controlled by the holster and its configuration. Most holsters for concealed carry are poorly made, not designed to properly support the pistol in concealed carry. Beware!
Glock 19 Gen 4 Vs Gen 5
The Glock 19 fifteen-plus-one is a generous capacity, especially for the bargain. There's no mistaking that the Glock 19 sets the standard for size-capacity ratio in the pistol world.
The Gen 5 Glock 19's slide comes unadorned in a black Melonite finish that is then treated with an nDLC coating. From which it becomes darker and, as they say, I finish the duration. I really like this new finish and the aesthetic it delivers. I can't say if it is more durable. I can say, however, that often dropping on the gravel during training will cause skids and spots to decorate the finish line, as is clear here;
The scales shown above are from several dozen repetitions of the "Sausage Wings" exercise, shown here;
The polymer frame is very similar to the Gen 4, except the grip on the sides is slightly flared to mimic the magwell (as it is an imitation) and the finger grooves on the front band are gone. The Gen 5 also only has one pin next to the latch lock instead of the 2 pins common to later generations. Perhaps because of this change, the bezel is quite a bit wider and a bit taller than that of the Gen. 4. The tenacious texture is the same as Gen. 4, and it is useful unless you have wet or bloody hands (yes, make sure you have your dot. Glock if it's a gun to carry).
