The tactical market includes not only law enforcement and the military, but also civilian self-defense as well as those who enjoy shooting in general.
When STI rebranded to Staccato, they not only changed the company name but also changed their offerings.
These 2011 models, including the Staccato P, have been tested by law enforcement agencies including the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and US Marshals.

They were approved for duty use, and the pistols were brought forward by a marshal. This acquisition gave Staccato a great starting package to capture a larger share of the high-end tactical handgun market.
The Staccato P is a duty sized gun and was the flagship model for the brand when it came to duty use. They also offer the Staccato C2, which is a slightly smaller version designed specifically for concealed carry.
As we mentioned earlier in this review, the Staccato P is designed specifically for duty use. Still it's a gun that will work for many roles.
It can be fired as a competition pistol, concealed on your person or used as an OWB carry option. The P is very versatile for a large gun.

If you plan to conceal this gun, you may want to consider changing the magazine well or removing it entirely. This greatly affects the concealment of firearms.
It also has the ability to accept longer magazines that hold 20 rounds or more.
There are 2011 magazine options with different lengths and capacities. You can buy these magazines directly from Staccato or get a higher quality magazine through a company called MBX.
MBX offers tactical style fans that lock the slide in the final round or tournament style fans that don't.

Many use Staccato mags because they work so well and cost only half as much as their MBX counterparts.
One notable thing you'll notice in this Staccato P review is that the gun has a large magazine with a two-piece design.
The other part is a magwell that attaches via a pin to the back of the grip. This design is large and makes the magazine very easy to seat in the pistol.
If you remove the magwell from the gun and use the well in your hand. You still have good build up from the back and the gun as well as light build up on the sides.

You will have a magwell that is easy to use even if you make this gun smaller by setting it up for concealed carry.
This gun, as we said before, is a 2011 design. This means that it uses a 1911 slide and has a proprietary frame that connects the slide and grip module.
You can also replace it with metal units made by aftermarket manufacturers. These can be made of materials such as titanium, aluminum, and steel. Material determines weight and durability.
There are many options and you can easily change the factory settings. If you want to conceal the gun further, units designed to accommodate shorter magazines are available from Staccato.

The 2011 Staccato grip model does not have removable back or front straps. Like most 1911s this design has a beavertail safety.
This is a well designed beavertail safety. With many of the 1911s I've handled over the years, I had trouble reliably disengaging the safety mechanism or felt that the sides and edges were a bit sharp.
I had no such problem with Staccato 2011; It drives well and feels good in the hand.
They are not perfect, however. I have handled guns like Dan Wessons and Nighthawks that seem to come together a little better.

These guns often cost $2,000 more than a similar condition Staccato P. So it's not apples to apples.
It appears to be a small number of bumps placed on the front and rear belts and on the side of the pistol.
There is also a Texan star on the lower quarter of the grip on each side. I like that touch.
It won't hurt your skin when you carry this gun concealed. And it won't rip your hand off if you shoot a high round number.

That said, it's still aggressive enough that it won't slip on your hands, even if your hands are sweaty and wet.
The overall feel of Staccato 2011 is that it's a big gun. This is definitely a gun that you know is in your hands and if you are a small handed shooter, I can see how this could be an issue.
That said, thanks to its ergonomics, even a shooter with small hands will be able to reach all the controls on this gun except for the slide stop and magazine.
If they are worried about activating the safety and pulling the trigger, I don't think they will have a problem.
What Are The Best 3 Gun Pistols?
From the factory, the Staccato P comes with two sights: you can get it with a dovetailed rear sight and a fiber optic front sight, or you can get the gun with the DPO module, which is what I have.
From the factory, the gun came with a plate on which the rear sight was mounted. It had fiber optic front sights and a black rear. These sights were a perfect fit on this type of gun.
I managed to shoot them well in a range session with the stock iron sights, but I wish Staccato had gone with a slightly thinner front fiber optic sight on this gun.
If I had to put the gun in an iron sight configuration, I would replace the iron sight with a .115 unit from Dawson Precision.

If you have a Staccato P DPO Staccato has a variety of plate offerings, so you should have no problem finding a red dot for this gun.
You can use RMR Holosun, RMRcc Holosun 509T - there are several offers that fit this gun. You can mount the Aimpoint ACRO.
I used one of these because it's inferior to the Staccato factory offerings, but I'm not sure I'll use it again. Mine came loose after 200 rounds and maybe 500 dry fire reps. I received an email offering to upgrade to their new version for less than half the price of the old version of the optic.
Personally, that kind of drives me crazy because I think that if they feel the need to offer customers an upgrade, then customers shouldn't be charged for the recall. In their defense, I didn't contact them after I lost mine.

If I were to do it again, I'd probably get a Dawson mounting system and go with that.
It's not a big deal because I prefer a dark face look anyway. I'm not a fan of fiber optic because I'm running Trijicon RMR.
If you love red dots and want one in 2011, the Staccato P is a great choice. The sheer number of red dot options puts it above and beyond other offerings on the market.

As we mentioned earlier, this gun has a rear grip safety and is very ergonomic. Not much to say about it, but we can go into detail about the ambidextrous thumb safety that this gun offers.
The 2011 Staccato ambidextrous safety is well designed and pretty much your standard 1911 safety. It doesn't have very sharp edges and it matches almost exactly on both sides.
The paddles themselves are similar in width, although the guard on the left is slightly further out. Its width is the same, but it is extended slightly forward to account for the plunger mounted on the side of the gun.
It's easy to put your finger down and push it back when the gun is safe again. I think Staccato did a great job on this gun considering the price.
