Best Glock Guide Rod - My first thought when these arrived was "OOoooooo brilliant!" Packaged in two small pouches with modest lettering were two new Glock Gen 4 guide rails from Lone Wolf Distributors. This was their last release of internal updates for the Glock platform.
Specializing in Glock parts, Lone Wolf quickly expanded and made a name for themselves, from conversion barrels to complete 9mm AR-15 kits and even their own frame, the TimberWolf.
Best Glock Guide Rod
Lone Wolf offered to send two of their newest guide rods to TFB and as one of Glock's resident shooters I had a choice of guide rods. Lone Wolf was kind enough to send two of their polished models, one each for the G17/G34 and the G19.

Are they a worthy upgrade or just another "me too" product in a solid aftermarket? Read below to find out.
WHY PAY MORE? Why would you pay $55-$60 for a competitor Gen4 shaft assembly where you can't even easily remove the springs? Our LWD version is half the price and easier to use. Why pay more? LWD S/S Guide Rod Assemblies are a complete unit for Glock Gen4. Special features include: Precision CNC machined solid stainless steel guide rod to accept a removable allen head bit for easy spring changes. 17-7 stainless steel return spring. Featherweight calibrated to factory weights. 75% heavier compared to the OEM part. (1.4 oz vs. 0.8 oz) These attributes combine to make the Lone Wolf Guide Rod Set the most durable and long lasting system available today. Available in a highly polished version for only $10 more. The high gloss option provides smoother, quieter operation. The best Gen4 shaft for only $39.95! Experienced shooters know that plastic guide rods can chip, crack, or break, causing feeding or ejection errors, and that guide rod flexing can contribute to accuracy problems. The Lone Wolf Guide Rod Set fixes all of these problems and will provide you with a lifetime of dependable service.
Installation was a breeze, slightly easier than a stock guide bar. Lone Wolf tries to keep the stainless bar just a hair shorter, although I didn't have any clamps to check. After installation, the slide can be quickly and easily mounted on the frame.
Two things immediately struck me: the slide was smoother (though not easier) to manipulate, and the standard "crunch" that characterizes a standard Glock was gone. The highly polished shaft felt smoother, but true to the ad, the spring rate stayed the same. It's actually a strange feeling for me that a Glock feels good.

I noticed two other things about the wand. The first is how obvious it is on the front of the gun when looking down the muzzle. With track lights over my work area, the polish was so good it reflected the light like a watch glass or flashlight. The second was that it stuck out a little more than the standard guide rod. It could allow for some extra debris inside, but it would be minor.
Heading to the shooting range I had high expectations for a significantly superior shooting experience. After the first two magazines in my carry pistol, I really didn't notice much of a difference. The gun just shoots like a Glock. When I switched to the G34/35 I was pleasantly surprised to experience just a touch less recoil on shot break. I would attribute this to the less friction on the guide rod which allows for quicker unlocking.
The wand itself didn't really change the overall heart rate, just made it a little more comfortable. I would say it's like a road trip where you can go at the same speed instead of always stopping and going. You always come to the same place, only one is more beautiful.
Operation of both pistols was Glock's usual monotonous reliability. The thing continued to fire anything it could load, from steel case to +P to the typical 115-grain RN. In the 500 laps I had with me, there wasn't a single hiccup.

When I got home I disassembled the guns and rebuilt them into poles. The stainless steel showed little wear after many shots compared to the wear stamped rods. However, both stock rods have several thousand rounds through them.
Please, Lone Wolf, offer a QPQ rod! The springs wouldn't need it (they are hidden in the gun).
The guide bar is an upgrade for the Glock, as is the JP Enterprises Silent Catch Spring for an AR-15. Is it necessary for a perfectly functioning weapon? no Is this a good buy for someone looking to get the most out of their gun? Absolutely.
My competition Glock, fully kitted out for next year. Previously fitted with a Lone Wolf 35-9mm conversion barrel which has worked well so far.

This is a "nice to have" piece and will be very nice to have and spin indeed. After shooting the Lone Wolf guide rod in my competition pistol, it is permanently installed and I plan to purchase a second one for the Gun Safety Clone.

The featherweight is a little lighter, remember not to go too low or the gun will not work properly.
The weight of the tungsten shaft assembly is 31.3 grams (1.10 oz). Same as 2 - 165 grain .40 S&W cartridges. Or a hair less than 3 - 115 grain 9mm cartridges.
OEM rod weight is 12.2 grams (0.43 oz). Same as JHP 1-124 grain 9mm cartridges.

I have this "G43 Reduced Power Tungsten Guide Bar" for my G48. The G48 already weighs 2 ounces more than the G43X, and all of those 2 ounces are in the muzzle of the gun. So I didn't really need the extra weight.
I bought it because the OEM shaft looks very flimsy and mine ended up looking like it was bent. This one is solid and three times heavier. I choose the reduced power spring because I am already 67 years old and plan on having this gun for the rest of my life.
Works great, the G48 used to be easier to store than my S&W Shield 9 2.0 (not the EZ) now it's even easier than it was. The RYG Multiweight guide bar allows you to have four different weights with one guide. assembly of poles. The included adapters allow you to choose between 13, 16, 17 and 18 pound weights for your 1st through 4th generation Glock pistols. Simply change each adapter to set your ideal feather weight.
